As I said in my last post, I have decided to read a few books this year. I finished “The Shack”, and I also finished “The Last Lecture” a couple of weeks ago. I just haven’t had the time to sit and post about it.
What interested me in this story was the fact that my step-father passed away from the same type of cancer that Randy Pausch passed away from last year. I was getting the mail ready to go to the street and I noticed a cover of a magazine with Prof. Pausch on it, so I jotted down his name and looked it up when I got home.
This a really touching read……There are a lot of touching stories, stories of success, and great little quotes as well. One that really stuck with me was (paraphrase) “If your screwing up and noone tells you about it, they have given up on you”. Randy Pausch seemed like such an inspiring guy and was willing to go out on a limb for his students and never let a “brickwall” stop him from trying to achieve his goals in life.
If you get a chance, check this book out and watch the actual last lecture that he gave a Carnigie Mellon. I’m glad I read the book first and held off watching the video. It really adds to the video if you know all that was going on with him mentally and physically. You can easily find the video on You Tube by searching the Last Lecture.
I have now started on “The Innocent Man” by John Grisham. This one will probably take me a little longer to read…..it is about double the size of the other two. Anyway…..Haylee and Ericcia are wonderful. Haylee is running around the house taking control of everything. Nothing can be “in”……..it has to be “out”………she may not play with it, but it has to be “out”.

I have decided this year, that I am going to try and do more reading. I have never been a big fan at all, but I think that it would do me some good to just sit and try to read something other than getting bogged down in the television. I have decided that I would like to try and read five books this year. Of course, I will continue to read scripture and hopefully read more and understand more. I can honestly say that I have not been the greatest at spending time in the Word as much as I should.
The first book that I have completed is a very popular and somewhat controversial book called “The Shack” by William Paul Young. I had been talking to a co-worker a couple of days after Christmas and she said that she had been reading this book in which at the time I had never heard of it. Much to my surprise, that same night, my father and his girlfriend gave Ericcia and I this book.
”The Shack” really drew me in from the start and was such an easy read. It kept my attention and I was always looking forward to continue reading when I had the chance. There have been some mixed reviews about the book and some pastors have even preached completely against it. For those of you who know me, you know I’m not a wordsmith, so I’m not going to even attempt to try and give a big review…..all I’m going to say is I enjoyed the read and would recommend it to others. You can check out the website for the book at www.theshackbook.com .
The next book that I have started is “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch with Jeffery Zaslow.

Ok…..I got in trouble because I hadn’t posted any updated stuff on here……..so for those who do still check in on us, here is Haylee’s 1 year photo shoot. As you can imagine, life is hectic around here, and it seems like I don’t spend near as much time sitting in front of the computer anymore. I am usually in the floor playing with Haylee before it is time to send her to bed and us get some sleep as well. I apologize for not posting and I will try to do better, but of course we all know I have said that in the past as well ;0) By the way, although she still has her mullet in these pics…..her first hair cut was just a couple of days after these were taken.

Well I guess we will go ahead and make it official. Haylee’s first word (that she comprehends and knows what she is saying) is………………………….Ki Kitty! Thanks to my mother and her cat Lilly, who Haylee just loves to death….both of them…..Haylee understands when you ask her where the ki kitty is, and will hollar for the ki kitty as well. If I were really good at this, I would have video of her saying this, but at this point in time……….I do not…….maybe in the next day or so.
She also likes to rattle off “BA BA BA BA BA BA” and “DA DA DA DA DA DA” but we don’t think she knows that she is talking about me, sooooooo thats why we agreed on “Ki Kitty” ;0)
